A one day conference for designers, developers, and product managers from around the U.S. to come together in Philadelphia, PA to learn the stories behind the web’s best brands, products, and experiences.
Co-collaborating on the Forge committee team for 2014, 2015, and 2016 was an amazing experience. Planning started about a month after the previous event had ended and continued throughout the year.
I was involved in the efforts surrounding event space evaluation, speaker planning and outreach, event schedule creation, event brand/design direction and day-of efforts including hosting and show running.
We decided to refresh the brand from 2014 and created a new style guide for 2015. Working closely with a front-end developer, we pushed the envelope in regards to design and layout of the event site. Visual impact was important!
The site turned out well and received positive reviews by the professional community in Philadelphia and elsewhere. It even got honored by The Webby Awards!
We took great care extending the brand across all collateral. Detail was a focus because we believed the design community would definitely take notice.
It took plenty of effort, but by our third year we had sold out the event. I helped alongside the committee team, in promoting Forge through a grassroots approach.
The day of Forge was exciting and a whirlwind. I talked with so many talented people and learned from speakers alongside everyone else.
The feedback for the event each year was overwhelmingly positive from both the speakers and attendees. Mission accomplished – our hard work definitely paid off!
Although challenging at times, helping to coordinate an event at this size (300 attendees!) and scope was very rewarding. It definitely helped to spotlight Philadelphia as a hub for UX and product design.
